The more open weave structure of Quantum Air fabrics allows air to flow through the fabric, which helps regulate body heat and keeps you comfortable for longer. This balance of air permeability and wind resistance means that Pertex® Quantum Air fabrics are perfectly suited to intense mountain activities..
A durable water repellent finish (DWR) sheds light rain and snow for added protection from the elements.
PrimaLoft® is a proprietary synthetic microfiber thermal insulation material brand that was developed for the United States military in the 1990s. 1980, it is a lightweight material, breathable, and very well protects the body from moisture.
Post-consumer recycled content (PCR) is a materials processing practice that is far from new to PrimaLoft. In fact, PCR has been part of the company's sustainability efforts since 2007. But in 2015 we set the bar even higher by committing to converting the 90 % of our line of isolation products into products with a minimum PCR content of 50 % until the year 2020. At the end of 2019, he 70 % of our product line has reached that threshold of 50 % and there is no doubt that we will achieve our goal of 90 % before the end of the year 2020.

Stratus is a high-performance synthetic material developed by Rab. It is produced using fibers 100% recycled from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles.
Designed to trap as much air as possible, Stratus boasts superior warmth for its weight while maintaining fantastic softness. Keeps warm when wet, dries quickly and is finished with a fiber migration treatment for durability.

Sweat vapor can easily escape through the innovative membrane, ensuring you stay dry and comfortable.
A PU film laminate (polyurethane) is the membrane between the face cloth and the backing cloth.
This membrane is what makes a garment waterproof, as it creates a barrier against rain or snow.
There are two ways to use a PU membrane in raincoats. The first way is to laminate the membrane between a face cloth and then apply a protective layer on the membrane. This creates products of 2,5 lighter layers.
Suitable for use in 2/3 fast-moving seasons or activities. The second way to use Pertex Shield is in a layer of 3 construction. Instead of applying a protective layer on the back of the membrane, a mesh or backing fabric is laminated to provide protection to the membrane. The method is more durable and suitable for use of 3/4 season.
Pertex Quantum Pro we incorporate it into some of our fill garments where we want to achieve a more weather resistant exterior than our standard Pertex Quantum.
Pertex® Quantum Pro fabric uses an ultra-thin, water-resistant polyurethane coating on the back of the face fabric to provide weather resistance in extreme conditions.
Pertex Quantum Pro has a hydrostatic head of 1000 mm which ensures that the down is even more protected from the elements like spindrift and snow.
HeFill Powerindicates the degree offluffiness and volume down on a scale of 400 a 1000 ripen (cubic inches).
To obtain this data, are introduced 30 g of down in the cylinder of an approved machine to calculate the Fill Power. The down is compressed with certain parameters, and at the end of the process the volume that reaches is shown.
A Nordic with a high Fill Power will be light and fluffy, and will have maximum thermal insulation with minimum weight. Conversely, another with a lower Fill Power will require a greater weight to obtain the same level of thermal insulation.
In the photo above we can see the difference in volume that is obtained with different qualities of down. All cylinders have the same quantity, with identical weight but nevertheless, the better the quality of it, greater volume is obtained. Thus, the quality of a Nordic is given by the lightness and comfort provided by a down of alto Fill Power.
While down products have revolutionized the way we dress for outdoor activities, it is impossible to ignore the fact that the raw material comes from large-scale farm animals. As the popularity of down garments grows, we have a greater responsibility to ensure that our isolation occurs in environments where animal welfare standards are maintained.
The Responsible Down Standard is a voluntary and independent global standard that aims to ensure that down is sourced from ducks and geese that have been treated well.. This means growing in environments that allow them to live healthy lives., express innate behaviors and not be afraid, pain or distress.
For more information on the Responsible Down standard, you can visit the website here.
Any extraction of down and feathers from live birds is prohibited (live plucked or moult collection).
Force feeding is prohibited.
Holistic respect for the animal welfare of birds from hatching to slaughter.
RDS down and feathers are properly identified; to ensure non-RDS down and feathers are not mistakenly identified as RDS.
Each stage of the supply chain is audited by a professional external certification body.
Only products with down and feathers 100% certificates bear the RDS logo.
This season, we are proud to use GRS certified PURE® recycled down in our Microlight range. Selected and sorted in Italy before being delivered to us, PURE® recycled down is currently the only down recycling company certified by the Global Recycling Standard.
The PURE® team is experts in recovering down from post-consumer waste items such as duvets and pillows. Recovered down is sterilized, clean, treated with Nikwax® hydrophobic treatment and classified into different qualities and filling powers, resulting in the same insulation properties as virgin down.
When the down gets wet, will lose most of its insulating properties. But this is where hydrophobic down comes in.: a relatively new concept whose purpose is to solve the main drawback of regular down, what is its lack of effectiveness in the wet.
The hydrophobic down has been treated with a durable water repellent that allows the down to dry faster and resist water longer, which means it will perform better in wet conditions. This makes down jackets that use hydrophobic down more versatile., as they can be used in cold and humid conditions without being damaged, which is excellent for british weather.
Jackets that use hydrophobic down tend to be a bit more expensive, since it is another process and expense for the manufacturer. Whether or not you need hydrophobic down depends on personal preference and whether you think this is a feature you need., although more and more manufacturers are using hydrophobic down in their products.
Advantages over regular down:
Pertex Quantum is featured in most of our synthetic fill garments due to its versatile properties. Created with a tight knit structure, Pertex® Quantum fabric is light and soft, allowing the insulation to rise completely.
This waterproof fabric is soft, comfortable and very packable. We use Pertex Quantum in a very wide variety of garments to combine lighter weights with higher fill powers for further optimization..
PrimaLoft, a leading materials science company, launched in the winter of 2018 its latest breathable insulation, el PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Active + containing a 55% of post-consumer recycled material. This latest innovation uses a special fiber structure, allowing clothing designers like Rab to use highly breathable outer fabrics and linings for better moisture management and comfort, without compromising thermal performance.
It is based on Primaloft's time-honored weaving technology: millions of air chambers in the microfiber that trap body heat to provide superior warmth in cold weather conditions. Permanently water repellent finish is designed to ensure perfect warmth even when wet, and the extremely soft and lightweight insulation is highly compressible and fits perfectly in backpacks, ready for any activity.
